Retro style of the 70s

Retro is the love of the past. Nostalgia for times gone by, and the style that has received it’s name, to bright cheerful colors and unusual forms. Designers and historians divide the retro era into three decades: the 50s, 60s and 70s of the last century (I was surprised that they already speak about the LAST CENTURY..am I getting old that fast :-)). Anyway, in this post I want to show you some inspirations of the Retro style of the 70s. It’s all about colors, crazy patterns, love, peace and disco music.

Mood. Character.

hippie look, peace & love, colourful & bright, warm, noble, funky & groovy

the age of boho, love and disco!

decoration elements.

wooden and natural elements and materials, glass, leather, as well as metal, plastic, vinyl and chrome elements.

ceramics with floral design.

Colourful fabrics with lots of flowers and geometric /floral patterns, hanging plants, macramés. Rattan peacock chairs show the more bohemian look of the 70s.

colors.

the desire for peace and calm in the 70s was reflected in it’s dark wood and warm earth tones. Avocado Green, Harvest Gold, Antique Red, Chocolate, Sunflower (Yellow Shades), Cerulean Blue and toned-down versions of the 60s orange (shades of orange).

the dress.

long, full maxi length boho wedding dresses with long sleeves and satin and/or lace elements (colors: creamy and off-white) OR short, minimal dresses without any applications.

flowers.

flower power of the 70s. All kind of flowers are allowed. All colors are allowed. But “daisies”, anemones and WILDFLOWERS are really popular for the 70s, mixed with big blousy blooms such as roses, peonies and dahlias.

and don’t forget to put the flowers in your hair to get the perfect “festival-chic” look…sooo Boho (e.g. flower grown).
